Speedway Motors founder and owner “Speedy” Bill Smith has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Darryl Starbird’s National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame Museum.

“Speedy” Bill joins the likes of Hot Rod Magazine founder Robert Petersen and car customizer George Barris in receiving this prestigious award. “I can think of no one more deserving of this honor,” said Starbird, who noted Smith’s many contributions to street rodding while presenting the award on February 15 during the 44th Annual Darryl Starbird Exotic Car Show and Monster Truck Races in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In receiving the award, Smith said he was honored to be recognized by his peers in the rodding community. He reflected on the significant growth he has seen in the hobby since starting Speedway Motors more than 56 years ago. “Street rodding is alive and prospering,” Smith said. “It’s growing faster than any other hobby and has become what I have always known it would be – one of the biggest pastimes in the country. I feel very fortunate to have been a part of street rodding’s tremendous success.”
