Just a little toy town on the freeway
Gas station grocery store and cozy cafe
Deadeye waitress with a shoot to kill smile
Says it's time for my break I'll be back in a while
When my watch fell asleep I got up on my feet
And rolled out to the parking lot
All that was left of my pride and joy
Was the signature rainbow parking spot
Thumb it to the next legit town
And lay my lunch money down
For a Greyhound ticket
Back to Point A
From the dozin' state to wide open awake
In one hundredth of a jawdroppin' "Wait!"
It's my ride in the passin' lane
Driven by the waitress Laughin' Jane
I glared holes through the window in that crawlin' bus
It couldn't get anywhere fast enough
She slowed down and paced us for a torturous while
Then blasted away with that wicked smile
Our paths crossed again at Exit One Twenty Three
Face to face under the Rest Area trees
A frozen moment of Truth or Dare
That hung like stale exhaust in the air
Then she started laughing
The laugh of the Free
And proceeded to laugh
A hole right through me
And I knew she had me
Right where I wanted to be:
Riding shotgun in the fast lane
With the waitress Laughin' Jane
