Hot rod cartoonist Pete Millar inspired millions of enthusiasts with CARtoons magazine, which he created in 1959 and later with Drag Cartoons, which appeared in 1963. He is also the creator of the Arin Cee comic character which appeared in Rod & Custom during that same period of time. In the Seventies, he published Drag Comics. Although he passed away in 2003, Pete Millar’s art is still popular today.
Millar’s cartoons gave some of his fans an inside look at the sport of drag racing. Other fans were racers who already had an inside look, and could laugh at Pete’s humorous take on the ins and outs of the sport and the sanctioning bodies.
There is a lot more to the life and art of Pete Millar than what appeared in his various publications. His life was a genuine, non-stop adventure and his art included fine art paintings and sculptures.
The August 2009 issue, on sale on May 26, will feature a story on Pete, including a bunch of his cartoons. We’re glad to be able to pay tribute to this great hot rodder and hope you enjoy it.
