Half the reason for pulling the rearend out
You may have wondered just why I pulled the rearend out of the Chevy when it seemed to be finished. Well, not only do I have to fabricate the brake lines on the axle casing, which I really should have done when installed the rest of the brake lines, but the underside of the dropped trunk floor was still in bare metal, and needed undercoating before I drive the car. Yeah, this will be a driver, so no fancy paint on the underside, but good ol' protective spray-on undercoating. The job was easier with the rearend removed, especially as it involved removing only five bolts and the flexible brake line, before the brakes get bled.
Before spraying on the undercoat though, which I bought in aerosol cans from my local auto paint store, as apparently the canisters of shutz which fit undercoat guns are no longer legal in California, I sealed all the welded joints with black silicone sealer. Now I can fab tho
se brake lines and get the rearend back in the car. Man, I hate taking what seems like a step backward, and want it back on its wheels ASAP!
